Local Attractions & History

Artesian Park is full of history.  The park opened in the early 1900s with a swimming pool and playground.  The swimming pool was fed with an artesian water flow.  It had a spin top in the deep end that was a big attraction.  Rumor has it that it is buried in the pool.  People say the pool was drained every Sunday, cleaned every Monday, and was so cold that people could not swim until Thursday.  There were bleachers outside the pool for bystanders to watch the swimmers.

There is a merry-go-round that has a patent from 1921.  It is still working today! It swings and goes around.   Many people come to play on it.

There is a recreation hall that has been converted from one of the first dance halls in Washington County to an area for events and travel clubs.  Many big names performed here including Jimmy Heat and Bob Wales.  The dance hall brought the Texas A&M guys and the UT girls together.  If the walls could talk...

Wayne and Sheila Rollins bought this property in 1999 as an established RV Park.  Many changes and amenities have been added since.
